Lucky in Louisville, Kentucky

Residents of Louisville, Kentucky are some pretty lucky folks – a beautiful city with both a big-city feel and small town charm, friendly neighbors, tons of local and national shops and restaurants, and always an exciting activity going on around town.  And now Louisvillians have the statistics to prove their good luck!

Men’s Health Magazine has named Louisville the 9th luckiest city in America.  These statistics are based on the most hole-in-ones (PGA), the fewest lightning strikes, the most sweepstakes winners (Powerball, Mega Millions, and Publishers Clearing House), the fewest deaths from falling objects, and the least money lost on lottery tickets and race betting.

Since Louisville is lucky when it comes to hole-in-ones, why not practice your luck on one of the many fantastic golf courses the city has to offer?  Valhalla Golf Club is one of the most prestigious and well-known courses in the area.  The PGA Championship was held at Valhalla in 1996 and 2000, along with many other local and national championships. The course was designed by professional golfer Jack Nicklaus and is a private club located on 486 acres on Shelbyville Road.  The Lake Forest Country Club is another great Louisville golf course, and is located in one of the most beautiful and luxurious neighborhoods in the city – Lake Forest.  The 18-hole course features 7,118 yards of play and was designed by Arnold Palmer.

With the most exciting two minutes in sports, the Kentucky Derby, being in Louisville – it’s no wonder the city made the luckiest list.  Churchill Downs on Central Avenue is the site of the Kentucky Derby every year in May, and is the 5th best Thoroughbred racetrack in the country.  The Downs also has the Kentucky Derby Museum, several exhibits showcasing the horses and trainers, and a 360-degree cinema that plays “The Greatest Race” documentary.
