Old Louisville now has an iPhone App
The nation’s largest collection of Victorian homes in a single neighborhood now has its own iPhone app.
“Historic Old Louisville Kentucky” version 1.0 has 340 entries, with tags to aid sorting by homes, walking tours, restaurants, businesses, inns and events. Users can also browse the neighborhood, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, by street names, or address.
Click on an entry and you’ll see an original photograph, a Google map, and a description that includes a property’s original owner, its architectural style, the year it was built (if available) and a description of the property’s architectural details.
The $1.99 app, available from the iTunes store, also offers:
- Four walking/driving tours, complete with descriptions, directions and maps
- More than 500 original photos of the neighborhood’s architectural beauty which can be played as a slideshow
- Information on annual Old Louisville events
- Discussions of more than 30 Victorian architectural styles
The app was created by John Paul, a passionate supporter of Old Louisville since 1992. He shot most of the photos used in the app.
He also helped create a very informative website on Old Louisville. There you will probably find an answer to almost any question about the historic neighborhood, from available bed and breakfasts in the neighborhood to links for the St. James Court Art Show.
From the 1800s to the 21st century, Old Louisville continues to be one of Louisville’s more vibrant preservation efforts.
