Need to relax? Take the time to stretch your muscles and maybe even find your zen courtesy of the Louisville Metro Parks association. You don’t always have to be outdoors to enjoy the Louisville Metro Parks system, you know. You can take a free Yoga class at the Community Center at Shelby Park.

Free Yoga Class at the Park

Go to the Community Center at Shelby Park, and go get your yoga on. Bring a water bottle and your comfortable workout clothes, and work on strengthening your muscles and freeing up your mind at the same time. Yoga is about posture, breathing and mental clarity, and it’s a good way to shape and tone muscles as well. The free class begins at 6 pm, and anyone is welcome to attend and participate or just check it out.

If you like the free yoga class, come on back. It will repeat every Monday for several weeks, so you can continue to refine your poses and technique. Be at the Community Center at 6 pm at 600 East Oak Street. That’s just a couple of blocks away from Germantown, a neighborhood unlike any other you can find in Louisville. Take the time to take a look around Germantown, and you won’t be sorry.

Having a Grand Life in Germantown

Germantown is an historic Louisville neighborhood that has its own unique character and its own brand of charm, which is easy to see after you spend a little time here. First settled in the late 1800s, today Germantown is full of busy young professionals and independently-minded people who enjoy being surrounded by both amazing history and trendy modern culture.

This is where you'll find the biggest collection of shotgun homes in the city, and actually one of the biggest group of shotgun homes you'll find anywhere else in the U.S. Today, those heavily-renovated historic homes are painted in bright colors and pretty pastels, or brightened up with bold paint accents. Outside, they have the classic charm of turn-of-the-century city housing. Inside, you'll find all sorts of modern amenities and features. Some homes here have gorgeous hardwood floors, interior brick details and totally modern design features that were added over the years.

?In Germantown, modern life and history live together in pretty harmony. See how this neighborhood charms you this January, and see if you can picture yourself living here.
