140th Kentucky Oaks May 2nd
This Friday, May 2nd, Churchill Downs, located at 700 Central Avenue in Louisville, welcomes the 140th Kentucky Oaks. Advance tickets are available at the box office from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. or online. General admission tickets are $34 per person, with group discounts available. Due to the popularity of this event, Churchill Downs provides special directions and parking for the Oaks.
Kentucky is known for its bluegrass and thoroughbred racing. The very first Kentucky Oaks took place on May 19th, 1875 and was founded by Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr. It was initially modeled after the famed British Epsom Oaks. The Kentucky Derby and the Oaks hold the record as the oldest continuously contested sporting events in history that still take place on their site of origin.
Think pink for fashion at the Oaks in honor of the official race flower, the Stargazer Lily. This year’s competition will also welcome back the Kentucky Oaks Fashion Contest and the Survivors Parade, which will lead off the race.
The 140th Kentucky Oaks contenders will be: Untapable, Sugar Shock, Fashion Pate, My Miss Sophia, Rosalind, Got Lucky, Aurelia’s Belle, Ria Antonia, Kiss Moon, FiftyShadesofGold, Unbridled Forever, Thank you Marylou and Empress Of Midway, subject to change prior to the race.
