Celebrate Military Heritage at Bowman Field October 15
The military is known for battle, for defending nations and providing safety. But the military has also been responsible for some of the greatest innovations in technology and mechanics. This October, go get a look at some of this incredible history right up close at the Bowman Field Aviation and Military Heritage Festival.
A History of Aviation in the Military
Go to Bowman Field to see rare, vintage aircraft and war planes from all over the U.S. Along with military vehicles, equipment of all types and military memorabilia will be on display. You’ll see 15 historic aircraft in full glory, and even have a chance to take a ride in a vintage airplane. There will be vintage cars and military vehicles as well.
Historic re-enactors will help bring the entire scene to life, and many community exhibitors have been invited to display their interesting items as well. All the fun begins at Bowman Field at 2815 Taylorsville Road from 9 am to 4 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 16 and under. Bowman Field is just a few blocks outside of Wellington, the neighborhood that’s surrounded by history.
Write a New Chapter in Wellington
You'll find Wellington next to the Farmington Historic Home, one of Louisville's wonderful historic sites. This neighborhood is in a unique position: it's surrounded by schools. The noted Sullivan University campus is next to the neighborhood on one side, and the locally famous Assumption High School is on the other. Atherton High School is just blocks away, and there are several more schools located within walking distance of the neighborhood.
Wellington was built for families, and the schools around it are just the beginning of the features that families find here. The homes here are built with traditional designs in brick, siding and popular Bedford stone. Neat, well-kept yards and tall shade trees line the streets. Wellington is bordered by Bardstown Road, a hotspot for foodies. Bardstown Road is known for its artsy culture and amazing cuisine, something else that families love. Go see Wellington, and all the fun stuff surrounding it, this October. Maybe you'll write some new history for your family right here before the month is through.
