Check Out This Guide to University of Louisville Sports Matchups in October 2013
October is just around the corner, and for the University of Louisville that can only mean one thing: it's sports season. The University of Louisville's various athletic teams all have big games coming up, so don't miss out on the action! Here are some of the most highly anticipated matchups for October 2013.
Men's Soccer: A Chance for Redemption
The University of Louisville Cardinals will be hosting Rutgers University on October 12, 2013 at Cardinal Park at 7 PM. Last year's Louisville-Rutgers match-up was a nationally televised affair that saw the Rutgers Scarlet Knights win by one goal. After taking an early lead, the Cardinals fell to the Scarlet Knights' strong defense in the second half. Despite having three corner kicks in the last few minutes of gameplay, the Cardinals just couldn't tie it up. This year, the Louisville team will be bringing the heat, so expect an intense, fast-paced game.
Women's Volleyball: Look for the Underdogs
Louisville's women's volleyball team will take on the University of Central Florida Knights on October 13, 2013 at 2 PM in the KFC YUM! Center. The Cardinals and the Knights haven't been matched up in some time, so the only thing one can predict is that this match will be unpredictable. The Knights took second place at the Georgia State Invitational this year, with star player Angelina Crump maintaining a .255 attack percentage. Although they sported a 30-4 season record last year, the Cardinals have been having a dry spell (with losses to Pepperdine, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) and are hungry for a win. With the Knights defending a reputation and the Cardinals out for blood, this game will be fierce.
Swimming & Diving: A Talented Team Ready to Take On the Competition
The University of Louisville swim team has been making headlines recently. First, there's diving team member Grigory Tarasevich, who won the 50-meter backstroke at the Junior World Championship in Dubai. Then, there are the seven Cardinals who made the CSCAA Scholar All-America team. If that's not enough, signee Kristina Steins was invited to join the Canadian team for the World Swimming Championships. The men's swimming team was ranked eighth nationally by competitive swim magazine Swimswam.com. Sporting what Swimswam calls "the most prestigious class in program history," the U of L swim program is chock full of talent and ready to take on all comers. Both teams face off against Xavier in the Ralph Wright Natatorium on October 11 at 5 PM.
Football: Challenging the Knights' Winning Streak
No college sports guide would be complete without mentioning football. The Cardinals will be playing against the University of Central Florida Knights on October 18, 2013 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, time to be announced. UCF have won their first three games of the season, including a 38-7 win against Akron and a 38-0 blowout against FIU. The Knights will be looking to extend their winning streak, so the Cardinals will have to be well prepared. If last season's 11-2 record and major win at the Allstate Sugar Bowl provide any indication, then the Cardinals will rise to the occasion. These are the four biggest University of Louisville sports match-ups planned for October 2013. In each of these matches, the stakes are high. No matter your sports preference, any of these major games will provide ample entertainment for the college sports enthusiast.
