Dance to Blues and Jazz at Big Rock in Cherokee Park October 1
Enjoy jazz and blues, two American musical styles that have a long history in this country, at Big Rock in Cherokee Park this October. The month kicks off with a celebration of music and nature, and this free family-friendly event helps to support the beautiful Louisville parks designed by the famous Frederick Law Olmsted.
Jazz and Blues in the Park
Olmsted didn't just design parks in Louisville. You may have also heard of two of his other parks: Central Park in New York City, and Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The Olmsted Conservancy protects Louisville parks like Central Park in Old Louisville, Iroquois Park and Cherokee Park, not to mention a dozen more Olmsted-designed parks -- like Big Rock.
Bring your own chair or blanket to the park from 1 pm to 6:30 pm, and be ready to hear some great American song stylings. ValuMarket will provide the refreshments, and there will be an exciting silent auction full of various items. Parking is provided at the nearby Douglass Boulevard Christian Church at 2005 Douglass Blvd. The Mint Julep shuttle will take you to the park from here.
Big Rock is at 2199 Park Boundary Road, just outside the Cherokee Gardens neighborhood.
Scenic Cherokee Gardens
Cherokee Gardens is right next to the Cherokee Golf Course, so some homes here have views of the sweeping fairways and beautiful greens. The Highlands is just minutes away with all its restaurants and nightlife, but Cherokee Gardens is mostly a residential area filled with homes. Homes here are built with traditional designs in stone and brick to give the neighborhood a timeless, classic look. But don't let that look fool you -- Cherokee Gardens homes are thoroughly modern.
Homes in Cherokee Gardens are surrounded by beauty and next door to a variety of culture on Bardstown Road. But homes here are also stately and grand, situated on quiet sidewalks with tree-lined streets. Residents here get a little bit of everything, and they're close to anything they may want to do. See how long it takes you to start singing this neighborhood's praises after you see the real estate in Cherokee Gardens this October.
