Eclectic Baxter Avenue in the Highlands
The eclectic Baxter Avenue is a special part of The Highlands that harbors some of the areas most renowned landmarks, along with beautiful Victorian-era homes. The street itself is framed by well-maintained Dogwood Trees, providing the residents with shady walks and a fragrant breeze when the blooms are in season.
The neighborhood borders on the western edge of the Highland community with Baxter Avenue delivering a direct northern path to the area's art and business district. Baxter also provides a connector to Eastern Parkway. Tyler Park, with its decorative fountain and tennis courts, is within walking distance of the ever-convenient Mid City Mall, which houses a grocery store, gym, library, The Back Door and several restaurants. The renowned celebrity Derby stop, Lynn's Paradise Cafe even called Baxter Avenue home until January 11th.
Big things can come in small packages and Baxter Avenue may not be a long road, but it holds its own sense of charm for local residents. Many of the same buildings can be seen in pictures from previous decades, however the names sometimes change on the storefronts. Overall, the neighborhood itself maintains a traditional sense of community that compliments the eclectic environment and gives it a comfortable feeling… like home.
