Elvis Tribute Spectacular January 18
In celebration of Elvis Presley's 80th birthday, the Elvis Tribute Artist Spectacular is touring. A stop in Louisville is scheduled for Sunday, January 18 at the Kentucky Center's Brown Theatre. The show is presented in a format that takes the audience through the phases of the career of the King of Rock and Roll.
Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artists on Stage
Two of the featured performers are former winners of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist contests. Elvis Presley Enterprises has held the competition annually since 2007. The competition seeks the "best representation of the legacy of Elvis Presley". The finals are held every year in Memphis during Elvis week. Shawn Klush, the 2007 and first ever winner, and Cody Slaughter, the 2011 title winner, are both appearing in the Elvis Tribute Artist Spectacular at the Kentucky Center.
The Musical Stages of Elvis' Career
The show will explore the era of young Elvis in his rockabilly and military years. There are segments of the show devoted to Elvis' career in the movies and his 1968 comeback. The highlight is the portion of the show reliving his Las Vegas concert years. The show is nearly three hours of terrific performances and appearances by Elvis' original drummer and back up singers. The tickets range in price from $22 to $52.
Presley Ties in Louisville
Elvis' grandfather, Jesse Presley made his home in Louisville. He lived at 4008 Beaver Street and was visited by his grandson whenever a tour took Elvis through the city. Following a pair of performances at the Jefferson County Armory in November of 1956, Elvis delivered a brand new 1957 Ford Fairlane to his grandfather. It was reported to have a brand new color television in the trunk and to have been the first car Elvis ever gave as a gift. Elvis' grandfather is buried at Louisville's Memorial Gardens.
