Go on a Mountain Bike Ride Through Cherokee Park May 28
Women, tell all the men in your life to stay at home. You’re going on a Women's Mountain Bike Ride this May. And if you’ve never done mountain biking before, that’s okay. This event is a no-drop ride designed for those who are new to mountain biking. Just grab a safety helmet, a mountain bike and a bottle of water, and you’re ready.
Just Like Riding a Bike
This ride will take you through the scenic trails of Cherokee Park, or on the park roads if rainy weather makes the trails impassable. Either way, this ride won’t be cancelled so grab your rain gear if the skies look cloudy. Meet up with the group at 6:15 pm, and be ready to ride at 6:30.
The ride will finish up around sunset, so you’ll get gorgeous views as you pedal along in this women-only event. After all, the men already have enough guys-only events and places. Now it’s time for the ladies to tell them to stay home and have some fun for themselves. Go inside the park to 745 Cochran Hill Road. There’s a gravel parking lot across from the frisbee field where you can leave your car. And while you’re in the area, you may just end up losing your heart to this part of Louisville. Before you go biking, take a scenic drive through Bonnycastle to see what this part of the Highlands has to offer.
Drive Through Bonnycastle
Bonnycastle stretches out from the park to Bardstown Road, a particular stretch of the street that contains some of the Highlands’ best-known shops and eateries. This is where you'll find the Doo-Wop Shop, Better Days Records, LouVino and The Bard's Town, all Highlands institutions that locals and visitors alike love. You'll also love the real estate in Bonnycastle. After all, most people do.
Much of this neighborhood was built at the turn of the 20th century, and to this day Bonnycastle is full of eye-catching, one-of-a-kind Victorian, Craftsman and historical revival designs. You'll see colorful houses surrounded by landscaping and tall trees, pretty homes with park views and great places to live within walking distance of some of the best attractions in the Highlands. Look long enough, and you'll probably see your future dream home here, too.
