Harrods Creek in Prospect, Kentucky
Harrods Creek is a peaceful community near Prospect, Kentucky that is bordered by the Ohio River, River Road and Wolf Pen Branch Road. The residents in this beautiful part of Kentucky have allowed limited development in order to preserve much of the bordering flora and fauna to maintain the natural surroundings.
This community had humble beginnings as it was initially planned with lots developed for residency, but no further town was developed. The area became what is known as Seminary Land for a time. When the Louisville Westport Pike, the present day River Road, was constructed, the area became a favored place for travel, but still little development. The addition of the Louisville, Harrods Creek and Westport Railroad in 1877 gave prospective land owners a second look at the beautiful countryside by the rolling river. Almost as if by magic, land was being sold and many of Louisville’s business leaders were building lavish summer homes.
The Harrods Tavern, the current day Captains Quarters, was once a busy port where boats heading up and downstream would make a stop for some tasty ale. The name has changed, along with the cuisine, but boaters can still stop in and enjoy a drink and a fine meal.
Today, Harrods Creek is a well-preserved community still catering to those seeking a peaceful and relaxing environment. Those that chose to make a home in the area will find the houses worthy of the peaceful surroundings and filled with every convenience.
