Have Dinner for a Good Cause June 25
Have drinks and dinner at Barrels for a Cause at the Kentucky Derby Museum this June. You'll get a tour of Churchill Downs, the world's most famous racetrack. There's also a silent auction. This is a swanky, classy evening out and the best part? It's all for a good cause.
Barrels for a Cause
It's Barrels for a Cause, a special event that helps to raise funds for the Lee Initiative. The Lee Initiative provides programs for the restaurant industry, which helps to expand Louisville as a great foodie city. All the proceeds of Barrels for a Cause will benefit the Lee Initiative.
Your tickets include dinner, drinks, a tour of Churchill Downs and the silent auction. There will be many specialty bottles of bourbon available for purchase. Famous bourbon labels like Old Forester, Pappy Van Winkle and Four Roses have provided bourbon for this special event.
Be at the Kentucky Derby Museum from 7 to 10 pm. The museum is at 704 Central Avenue. It's actually right next to Churchill Downs, which makes it pretty easy to find. Go just a few blocks away from the museum and you'll find Shively, the pretty suburban neighborhood that exists because of the bourbon industry.
What's the Story with Shively?
At the beginning of the 1800s, Shively was all farmland. Early settlers built farms and homes here for many years. But at the end of Prohibition, Shively became a bourbon boom town. All of a sudden, eight different distilleries opened up in the neighborhood. The neighborhood soon got a reputation for being rowdy thanks to the great quantities of whiskey being produced here. To this day, the neighborhood is known as "lively" Shively.
But things quieted down here after those wild days. In the 1950s, Shively reinvented itself as a beautiful suburban neighborhood filled with bungalow homes, sidewalks, schools and kid-friendly places. Shively is still all of these things today. The streets are full of pretty homes in classic styles. None of them are too far away from a school. The neighborhood is full of them. Dixie Highway runs through Shively, where you can find no shortage of restaurants, shops and places to discover.
Find out what you'll discover in Shively. You may decide to make it a big part of your story.
