Looking for Uncle Fester? The Kentucky Center Presents The Addams Family This October

This October, everyone's favorite macabre family is coming to The Kentucky Center in a musical phenomenon that is sure to delight. Featuring the familiar Addams Family characters in a brand new storyline, this former Broadway production will make you laugh so hard it’ll send shivers down your spine.

Critical Acclaim: First Broadway, Then the World

Charles Addams created The Addams Family in 1938 as a cartoon comic that ran in magazines. Drawing on his renowned sense of macabre humor, he was inspired to create a series of 150 one-panel comics. Approximately 75 of them were printed in The New Yorker over a 50-year span. The comic quickly gained popularity and was adapted into a television series for ABC in 1964. This resulted in spin-offs into two animated television programs, a TV movie featuring the original live-action cast, and three feature films. The Addams Family musical was written by Broadway producers Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with a score by Andrew Lippa. The musical opened on Broadway in 2010, grossing over $62 million in one year. 2011 and 2012 saw tours in the United States, Brazil, and Sweden, with additional tours planned for Asia and the Philippines.

The Musical: Frightfully Delightful

Phoenix Entertainment will be presenting The Addams Family musical in Louisville, featuring a plotline that show-goers will love. Gomez and Morticia Addams pay the family graveyard a visit for the annual Addams family reunion, where all Addams family members (alive, deceased, and everywhere in between) celebrate that which makes one an Addams. Uncle Fester interrupts the festivities with a grave concern: Gomez and Morticia's daughter, Wednesday, has fallen in love with a "normal" boy. To make matters worse, it is revealed that Wednesday has organized a meet-the-parents dinner at the Addams family mansion. Tensions mount as the families discover how different they really are, and after a party game gone awry, a horrible storm traps both families inside the Addams mansion overnight. Love, rivalries, and insecurity all get the better of the characters, and suddenly the only way forward is through an Addams-style reconciliation. Directed by the Olivier award-winning Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, the musical is advertised as "a family portrait that's completely off the wall."
