Riverview Park Independence Festival June 28th

Looking for a way to celebrate the Fourth of July a little early? Head to the Riverview Park Independence Festival on June 28 to watch fireworks over the Ohio River. The park has been revitalized in recent years to become one of the city’s prettiest views of the river. Why not see it all lit up in patriotic fashion?

Rocking on the River

The Riverview Park Independence Festival will be hosted by local personality Dawne Gee. The fireworks won’t start until 10 pm, when the sky is good and dark. But the event opens at 3 pm, and activities are scheduled throughout the day to keep everyone entertained while they wait for the show.

Riverview Park Independence Festival

Go to the end of Greenwood Road to find Riverview Park, also known as Greenwood Boat Dock. The Riverview Splash Park will be open all day during the Independence Festival. Kids of all ages will enjoy cooling off here. From 5 to 7, local group 31W will perform. Ode 2 the Gnu will take the stage from 8 to 10, just before the fireworks begin.

Visit the Mad Science of Kentucky crew while you’re at the event. They’ll be there teaching participants how to make their own cotton candy and slime using science. The Louisville League of Mascots will also be attending the Festival, so you may have a chance to take a photo with your favorite. Ron’s Hot Dogs and Ehrler’s Ice Cream will provide food all day long.

Overflow parking can be found at Pleasure Ridge Park High School at 5901 Greenwood Road. The trolley will run from PRP to the docks from 4 pm to 11 pm.

South End Celebration

Riverview Park is in Louisville’s South End, in the PRP community. The South End is a close-knit area of town that includes Valley Station and Shively, with are on either side of the PRP district. Homes of all types are located within this community, which has plenty of schools, shopping and restaurants. The South End has its own library branch, and thanks to Riverview Park it’s got its own great view of the river. Go take a look at it this summer.
