Science Week Starting July 21 at Boys and Girls Clubs of Louisville
The Kentucky Science Center is bringing Science Week to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Louisville during the week of July 21. Workers and volunteers will travel to the kids and present new programming in the kids' familiar surroundings for the first time this summer. The Kentucky Science Center intends to make it an annual summer event. The Kentucky Science Center personnel will be engaging the kids in health related science topics through activities developed for this program.
Focus on Healthy Eating, Exercise and Sports Science
A workshop on helmet safety intended to reinforce the importance of helmet use to minimize head injuries will be conducted in an age appropriate format. Concepts like helmet safety should be quickly reinforced during the summer when outdoor activities like bike riding are at their highest levels.
Healthy eating, exercise and sports science will all be emphasized during the activities and workshops. A healthy lunch is part of the program and is provided. The smoker lung experiment is a highlight on the list of activities. The experiment is used to demonstrate to kids the effects of smoking on their lungs.
