See Historic Parkland This September

This September, get a look at one of the first subdivisions in Louisville. Parkland was built in 1871 as a suburb of the many businesses being built in the downtown area. People came here to build their mansions and townhomes and houses of all kinds. You can still see Louisville’s early days reflected in the architecture that remains here.

Visiting Parkland

Many of the mansions in Parkland were damaged in 1890, when a powerful tornado ripped through the city. The whole area was rebuilt and expanded in the 1890s. The thriving business district nearby continued to be a heartbeat for the community throughout the 1950s. The neighborhood boomed in those post-WWII years and today, Parkland still has traces of all this history.

Parkland, Limerick, and Old Louisville, these neighborhoods showcase the story of Louisville’s past.
