Surround Yourself with Roses This May 14

Roses play a pretty big role in the Kentucky Derby. The garland of roses is draped ceremoniously over the winning horse, an amazing creation that many florists spend many hours perfecting. Only the most stunning roses are chosen for this luxurious floral decoration. And if you’ve tried growing roses at home, you know just how difficult this flower can be. Learn about the history of roses, and pick up some expert tips for growing them, at History of Roses Workshop at the Yew Dell Botanical Gardens this May.

The Natural History of Roses

You’re invited to a workshop where you can learn more about roses, one of the most popular and most loved flowers in the world. Roses are a staple of Valentine’s Day and weddings because of their association with love and romance. They are also very much a part of the Kentucky Derby, and red roses often feature in decorations and hats designed for the event.
