You don't have to head to the ocean or even get very far away from Louisville to visit a beach. There’s one right in LaGrange at the <a href="https://www.frp-lagrangequarry.com/" title="LaGrange Quarry">LaGrange Quarry</a>.
LaGrange Quarry
The LaGrange Quarry, more formally known as Falling Rock Park, is surrounded by natural limestone. The way that limestone naturally filters water makes the water in the quarry incredibly clear and beautiful and this is a favorite swimming spot.
<img src="https://assets.site-static.com/userfiles/182/image/LaGrange_Quarry_Beach.jpg" width="350" height="175" alt="LaGrange Quarry" title="LaGrange Quarry" />
There's also a small beach and plenty of natural scenery. You can find hiking trails if you want to go exploring and you might want to go snorkeling. There are lots of pretty fish in the water you might want to get a look at.
But just because this is a swimming spot does not mean there are lifeguards. This is not a swimming pool, it's a lake. Children are not allowed but this is not a party spot, because drugs and alcohol are not allowed, either. There are places to grab a bite to eat nearby and the entire rest of LaGrange to explore. Take a short summer trip just outside Louisville and spend a day at the beach and the lake before the season is over.
Looking Around at LaGrange
LaGrange has plenty of away-from-the-city charm, like the quarry swimming hole. But LaGrange also has classy country clubs and pretty golf courses. You can find a working farm or a big, glorious lodge here. There are schools, places to shop, restaurants, all the stuff you want in a place to live. However you want to live, you can do that in LaGrange. Whether you're looking for small-town charm or high-classic living, there are homes and attractions here that will suit exactly the life you want to lead.
If you're looking for a huge historic estate with more than seven bathrooms and a lawn big enough to practically play a round of golf on it, if you're hoping to find a classic home with two stories and pretty siding and three bedrooms, of you want something with a big wraparound porch, it's in LaGrange. Just about any home you might want is already here. LaGrange has a huge selection of homes available in just about any style you might want, from modern contemporary to traditional to historic to more outside-the-box designs.
Look around at LaGrange for a while and you might get a good look at your next home.

Take a Look Around LaGrange
LaGrange is more than a neighborhood, it's a small town that has everything you'd want to see in any small town. LaGrange has its own downtown area filled with various businesses. There's also an historic district here that honors the long history of this community, which was founded way back in 1827. But even before the official founding, this was a settled area where people were living. The Revolutionary War hero, Lafayette, visited here in 1824.
This neighborhood has its own library, post office and schools. It has gyms, parks, natural lakes, even a greenhouse where flowers are always in bloom. Sit and sip a cup of coffee on Main Street or get a cocktail at the bourbon and ale house. Visit the park, shop in an independently owned boutique and then take a look at the real star of this community, the real estate.
Lots in LaGrange are big because the homes are big. They also come in all styles here, from historic farmhouses to brand-new contemporary dwellings with lots of open spaces and multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. Many lots here have natural features, including small ponds, stands of trees and rolling hills. LaGrange has a distinctly country feel to it, but Louisville, the "big city", is just a short drive away.
Get away from it all and get to a community with homes that will make your jaw drop, with features that you’re going to love.

On this night, it’s possible for spirits on one side of the veil to slip over into our world. So, have you got the nerve to go meet the <a href="https://www.lagrangemainstreet.org/" title="Spirits of LaGrange on Halloween">Spirits of LaGrange on Halloween</a> night?
Haunted History
The Spirits of LaGrange tour beings at 7 pm at the Main Street Office and Welcome Center. It’s near the center of LaGrange at 208 E. Main Street, and tickets cost $18 per person. You’ll visit 8 stops along the tour, and you will go inside at some of the places you visit. The tour encompasses about 12 blocks, so you’ll get a great look at the historic places in LaGrange.
<img src="https://assets.site-static.com/userfiles/182/image/Spirits_of_LaGrange_on_Halloween.jpg" alt="Spirits of LaGrange on Halloween" title="Spirits of LaGrange on Halloween" width="350" height="267" />
You’ll also hear about some of the haunted history here, and the stories that date back to the early days of LaGrange and Louisville, as you take the candlelit walking tour. This neighborhood, which is really a small city, was founded in 1827. Since then, it's had plenty of time to develop its own haunted history...and who knows how many lingering spirits? Meet them all on Halloween night -- if you dare.
The Lighter Side of LaGrange
The Spirits of LaGrange tour is all in good fun, and Halloween is definitely the perfect time of year to take the tour and learn a little bit about the history here. But LaGrange has a lighter side, too. Visit this neighborhood any time to see it, and you’ll find yourself pleasantly surprised by this little town next to Louisville.
The custom-built homes in LaGrange are stunning whether you see them by night or day. Lots here are enormous, so residents have plenty of room to spread out. Yards here have their own natural features, from huge mature trees to bodies of water. You can find every type of home in LaGrange, from a luxury modern showpiece to a quaint farmhouse to a true equestrian estate. Just the word equestrian sounds fancy, so you can imagine how amazing the properties in LaGrange really are.
You won't have to imagine for much longer. Go visit this neighborhood this Halloween, and pretty soon you'll fall in love with LaGrange -- even if it is a little haunted!

Lots of local vendors will have booths set up, but they aren’t the only ones who will be here. Many food trucks will also be on hand so you can snack while you shop, and the stage will feature local musicians playing live tunes. There will be plenty of room for dancing, just in case your toes can’t stop tapping. Get a signature cocktail from Classic Cuisine while you’re here, and taste a Main Street Margarita.
It’s free to go to the Fancy Flea Market, but you’ll want to bring some shopping money with you because you won’t be able to resist. While you’re here, you may find that you can’t resist LaGrange, either.
Will You Fancy LaGrange?
LaGrange's Main Street perfectly shows off this neighborhood's small-town charm. This is where you can find the welcome center, the historical society and several shops and restaurants. But when you venture beyond the heart of the neighborhood, you'll find the grand homes and wide-open spaces that make this neighborhood so appealing to homeowners. Space is what you'll find in LaGrange, and that's what families really need.
If your family needs a little room to grow, look to LaGrange to make it happen. Many homes here were custom-built, so you can find a little of everything. Parents know that, and even the library system knows that. But it’s okay, because on Tuesday evenings the <a title="Library in LaGrange" href="http://www.oldhampl.org/">library in LaGrange</a> isn’t a library anymore. It’s a coffee house for teens to chat, relax, study, play games and have fun.
This Isn’t Your Parents’ Library
The LaGrange Library at 308 Yager Avenue is a teen-friendly place on Tuesdays. There’s a new theme every week, in case they need a little structure when it comes to having something to do. There’s also plenty of coffee and hot chocolate, great winter drinks. Teens can play games, do homework, hang out and talk and just be relaxed with other teens. Adult supervision will be present, but in the background so the kids can feel like they have the run of the library -- and they do!
