Take a Winter Safari Through the Louisville Zoo December 10
Bring your kids and your cameras to Santa’s Safari at the Louisville Zoo, and be ready to be enchanted. No one is immune to holiday magic, and the Zoo is going to be bringing out its best.
A Zoo Safari
Santa Claus has brought some of his friends from the North Pole to the zoo. While you’re here, the kids can meet Frosty the Snowman. Take a look at Santa’s Louisville workshop, where elves can help your family create a holiday craft for everyone to enjoy. And before the adventure is over, Mrs. Claus will of course have plenty of cookies and holiday treats to offer -- along with hot chocolate for the kids and hot coffee for the grown-ups.
Every child will get a free photo with Santa, and there will be time for a holiday sing-along before you leave. The Santa Safari passport will get you inside the Zoo’s heated buildings -- because North Pole weather is only suitable for polar bears -- where you can visit with Zoo educators and learn a lot more about the animals you’ll be seeing. Admission is $8.50 per person.
The Louisville Zoo is at 110 Trevilian Way, right next to Camp Taylor. Be there from 10 am to 3 pm to enjoy the whole safari, and stay in the area to explore Camp Taylor before you go. The wilds of Camp Taylor are pretty interesting, too, even if you don’t happen to find Santa Claus here when you visit.
Take a Day Trip to Camp Taylor
From the grounds of a huge military camp, the neighborhood now known as Camp Taylor emerged. Many of the first residential homeowners who lived here were returning military men who were coming back to Louisville after World War I. Today, Camp Taylor is still filled with the charming Cape Code and bungalow-style family homes that were originally built here.
These days, Camp Taylor is a pretty family neighborhood between Audubon Country Club and the Louisville Zoo. The winding streets will take you to Taylor Park, which is right in the neighborhood. All the green around Camp Taylor makes this a shady, quiet neighborhood where you'll see kids riding bikes and neighbors walking dogs. When you're here, you'll see why so many people chose this neighborhood to build their American dream.
