Take the Kids to Tinkerlab at Mama’s Hip March 26
If you have a child age 5 and under at home, you already know how creative they can be and how much stuff they can manage to get into. Kids have a way of taking things apart, opening up storage spots, tinkering, tinkering. Take them to Tinkerlab at Mama’s Hip this March. Here, they’re actually encouraged to do a bunch of tinkering around.
At Tinkerlab, children aged 5 and under can play with hammers, nails, screws, nuts, bolts, wrenches and pliers to create, build and let their imaginations rule. This workshop actually helps little ones build their hand-eye coordination and work on motor skills. They’ll get to use their hands, and you know kids are going to like that.
This is a drop-in workshop, so there's no need to register or call ahead. The workshop costs $5 per kid. Head to Mama’s Hip at 1559 Bardstown Road at 1 pm. That’s in the Highlands, and it’s just outside the famous Cherokee Triangle. This is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Louisville. You’ll figure out why in about 1 minute, just long enough to get a look at a couple of the houses here.
Tinker Around in Cherokee Triangle
The Highlands is known as one of the hippest and trendiest neighborhoods around. If it's new in fashion, food or art, then it's probably already in the Highlands. But Cherokee Triangle is draped in Old World charm. The architecture and the neighborhood harken back to the Victorian Era, and you'll see the mark of these earlier days everywhere you look. From the incredible paint colors the soaring chimneys to the round rooms and distinct roof lines, Cherokee Triangle is breathtaking in every direction you happen to look.
Cherokee Triangle is named for nearby Cherokee Park, which is within walking distance of the neighborhood. Lots of places to go are just next to or outside of the neighborhood. Baxter Avenue theaters is here right on Bardstown Road. It's surrounded by some of the popular eateries and watering holes in the Highlands, including Impellizzeri's and Holy Grale. Mid City Mall is right across from the neighborhood. And because it's Bardstown Road, if you go 5 minutes in either direction, you'll find coffee shops, boutiques, places to see or buy art and all sorts of fun places you'll never find anywhere else but right here.
Take the kids to Tinkerlab, and then give yourself a treat by looking around a bit in Cherokee Triangle. Soon, you’re going to want to live here, too.
