The Humana Festival of New American Plays: Festival Highlights and Information

The Humana Festival of New American Plays is an event dedicated to new plays. The 38th edition of this event will take place between February 26 and April 6, 2014. By creating a space in which these plays can be launched, this festival brings awareness to novelty and creativity. It focuses on four main values. The first, already mentioned, is creativity. The second is collaboration, which centers on respecting the ideas of other people. The last two, engagement and excellence, are all about connecting individuals with high quality art.

Ticket Options: As Diverse as the Audience

Tired of robust ticket plans that don't fit your needs? You won't run into that problem here. There are a total of five different options you can choose from. The first, single tickets, is for those interested in seeing only one or two of the plays. If you're from Louisville, there is a local pass designed just for you. This allows locals to be the first seeing the performances. If you're a member of the press, a producer, director, agent, or an industry professional, there's a package designed for you. Do you love theatre? Then you might want to get the New Play Getaway package. This gives you the chance to see all the plays you want during a weekend. The final option is for those in college. Students and faculty members are allowed to go backstage with the “college days” pass.

Getting There Has Never Been So Easy

The festival is conveniently located in downtown Louisville. If you are flying in for this event, make sure that you plan your time accordingly. Typically, it will take you around 45 minutes to get downtown from the airport. During the final two weeks, there will be shuttle service provided for free from the airport. However, it is only offered for those staying at participating downtown hotels, so check beforehand.

And Now, for the Plays...

This year, there will be no less than six plays offered. The titles are as follows: Partners, The Christians, The Grown Up, Brownsville Song, Steel Hammer, and Remix 38. Let's have a look at the first three! Partners is all about relationships put to the test. In this play, the main struggle the two couples are facing is a financial one. This, however, opens up the opportunity for deeper reflection into what it means to be human. The second play, The Christians, is also about putting something to the test. This time, however, it's faith that's under question. The Grown Up depicts the hardships of growing up. Nevertheless, it also explores the ways in which people survive the process of becoming an adult. The last three plays offer themes just as intriguing, and tell human stories in beautiful new ways. If you find yourself wanting to see more than one play, remember that you can do that too.

If you're a fan of the theatre and love everything fresh, here's your chance to indulge. The Humana Festival is the perfect treat for you, or for a loved one. Just give these emerging plays a try! You'll definitely be happy you did so.
