Things to Do Around Louisville, Kentucky
It’s going to be a fun weekend in Louisville, Kentucky! The First Friday Trolley Hop, The Garvin Gate Blues Festival, Foxhollow Farm’s Fall Festival, and the Food Truckus Ruckus are all events going on this weekend in and around the city.
The Trolley Hop is an art show and street party that happens every first Friday of the month from 5-11 PM in downtown Louisville. Trolleys will be free to the public and will drive patrons to several art galleries and shops along 4th Street, Main and Market Street. Free parking is available at Slugger Field, Main Street at Jackson, and on the street and 4th Street Garage after 6 PM. Some of the more popular Main Street Galleries include the Actors Theatre Gallery, the Pyro Gallery, and the 21c Museum Hotel. Market Street has several wonderful galleries including, Glassworks, The Green Building Gallery, and Zephyr Gallery. There are plenty of restaurants to stop at if visitors need a quick bite to eat and many of the galleries offer drinks and snacks for those just looking to nibble.
The Garvin Gate Blues Festival takes place on Friday at 6:30 and lasts until late Sunday night at the Gate on Garvin Place and Oak Street in Old Louisville. There will be several acclaimed blues musicians playing at the festival including Karen Lovely, Grady Champion, and Lamont Gillespie & 100 Proof. This free festival is a celebration of the blues and attracts all kinds of folks who love good music and fun.
The Food Truckus Ruckus will take place at the back lot of Baxter and E. Jefferson Streets and will feature local area food trucks for hungry visitors. The Lil’ Cheezers Gourmet Grilled Cheesemobile, Morels Vegan Cuisine, El Rumbon Cuban truck, Mozzapi, and San Diego Sandwich Works will be just some of the food trucks at the Ruckus. Additional vendors will include SoupByCycle, Please & Thank You, and Grasshoppers. Food trucks have exploded in the city lately and this is a great opportunity to try them all!
The Foxhollow Farm’s 4th Annual Fall Festival is just a quick drive to Crestwood this Saturday. There will be plenty of fresh food, live music, hay and pony rides, and a pick your own pumpkin patch. This is a free event and is a great time for the whole family. Parking will cost $5 and all proceeds will benefit Maryhurst Inc., a non-profit organization that cares for children and families in need. Foxhollow is a 10 acre market garden in Crestwood that grows high quality produce and raises grass fed beef and chickens. Foxhollow Farm is a Biodynamic farming community that provides healthy food and a learning experience about earth friendly farms. Biodynamic farmer’s uses a special spray made from organic matter such as herbs and compost. This special spray brings nutrients to the soil and increases vitality and sustainability.
