Training for This Autumn: Here Are Three Charity Runs and Walks This September
The start of autumn is an excellent time to put your training to the test. When the summer heat starts to break, conditions are just right for outdoor exercise. But if you're still a little short on motivation, running for charity can give you the extra incentive you need to get out there. This September there are several charity walks and runs in the Louisville area that are sure to be uplifting events. So lace up your runners and get out into the community. Check out these three runs this September.
Walk to End Lupus Now
Here's a run for a really important cause. The Lupus Foundation of America hosts these walks all across the nation to raise awareness and funds for Lupus research. Funds for this particular research are incredibly important as the cause of Lupus is still unknown and no cure yet exists. The Louisville walk/run will be held in EP Tom Sawyer State Park on the morning of September 28th, bright and early. The event offers 1, 2, or 3 mile loops, so runners and walkers of varying athletic capabilities all have a chance to come out and take part.
Stampede for VIPS 5K
This walk/run benefits the Visually Impaired Preschool Services, a great organization that helps children who are blind or have visual impairments. A terrific feature of this race is that it offers a division for runners or walkers with visual impairments. It's a 5K event, which is a manageable distance for both experienced and novice runners. And following the race, there will be a Kids Fun Run and other activities. All in all, it's a great way to spend the morning. This year, the annual event will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 8am. So get over to the Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and show your support for VIPS.
9/11 Heroes Run
If you don't mind making a bit of a trip, consider the 9/11 Heroes Run in nearby Versailles, Kentucky. This run is put on by The Travis Manion Foundation and is held in dozens of cities across America. The start of September is always a good time to remember the heroes of 9/11 and honor the sacrifices they made. The 9/11 Heroes Run is a terrific way to do just that. The event offers discounted rates for families—the perfect incentive for bringing the kids and getting everyone involved! After the races, the 5K Run/Walk and 1M Fun Run/Walk, organizers have all kinds of festivities planned. There will even be a board honoring heroes; participants are encouraged to bring pictures of heroes to put up on this board. It's sure to be a great event. Mark September 7th in your calendar.
This Septembers offers some great opportunities to put your running and walking training to good use. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up the motivation to get out there and exercise. But it sure is easier to get up early and get those running shoes on when you know that your efforts will support important causes in the community.
