Upgrade, Fix and Accessorize Your Bike October 27
The simple bicycle is one of the oldest forms of transportation, and for many people it was the first transportation they ever had. Head to the Falls City Community Bikeworks Open Shop this October to repair, upgrade or accessorize your bike.
Open Shop
Are you a bicycle enthusiast? Join others who love bikes at the Open Shop at Falls City Community Bikeworks from 1 to 4 pm. FCCB can teach you bike repair and maintenance and help guide you through accessorizing your bike. The shop also has plenty of new and used bike parts, including chains, grips, tires and tubes. They won’t do the repairs for you. The point of the open shop is to help you learn how to perform repairs on your own. And isn’t that more fun, anyway?
If you like bikes and you like to get your hands dirty, you’re going to love the open shop at the Bikeworks. The cost is $8 an hour for access to the shop and the available expertise you’ll find here. Falls City Community Bikeworks is at 1217 Logan Street. That’s just outside of Germantown. This neighborhood is perfect if you want to hop on your bike and go on a ride because of the great architecture, beautiful real estate and many features the community has to offer.
Take a Bike Ride Through Germantown
Germantown is more than a name for a neighborhood. This community is truly steeped in German culture that dates to the 1870s, just like some of the historic architecture that still remains here. In the 1890s, the biggest collection of shotgun houses in all of Louisville was built here. Lots of these homes still remain to this day, pretty historic homes that are painted with eye-catching trim colors and upgraded inside with newer electrical and plumbing systems.
This is a neighborhood that's known for being hip today. If you take a bike ride through Germantown, you'll notice lots of trendy young professionals and well-dressed people going to the restaurants here to enjoy authentic German cuisine or stopping in a quiet little bar to grab an after-work cocktail. Germantown is also home to the Idlewild Butterfly Farm, an art gallery, more than one park and even an adventure training place.
Ride around the quiet residential areas of Germantown, visit the busier commercial parts of the neighborhood and fall in love with everything you can find here. It won't take too long before you do.
