Visit a Turn of the Century Library This September

Louisville is full of interesting historic homes and there are plenty of old buildings to look at if that's your thing. But over time, many of these buildings have changed to become something else. Homes become businesses or businesses become homes or these historic places become museums. But the Crescent Hill Library is different. This gorgeous old building has been a library since it was built in 1908. And in more than one hundred years of history, this building has become pretty fascinating. Take a look this September.

The Beaux-Arts Building

The Crescent Hill Library has a fancy sort of look to it. That's from the Beaux-Arts style of architecture. Of course, the building has gone through some extensive restorations over the years but the architecture has been preserved and it's intact.

Crescent Hill Library Historic Building

The library has features for the blind and it's fully handicap-accessible. It's also huge, with multiple floors and wings. The main library area is peppered with quiet reading and study areas. But it's the Children's Wing that really stands out. You're in the right place when you see a huge mural that makes you stop and stare. In 2007, one of the reading rooms in the library was named as one of the top 10 reading rooms in all American public libraries. Not too shabby!

Find the Crescent Hill Library at 2762 Frankfort Avenue. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 9 pm and Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. It's always free to come here and to get books or just to look around. And while you're here, think about the one hundred-plus years that people from the Louisville community have been coming here. The library is a big art of the community of Crescent Hill. And as you will see, Crescent Hill is a pretty interesting place, too.

The Homes in Crescent Hill

You might go to Crescent Hill for the library, for the historic water tower, maybe for the aquatic center or the golf course. You might come for one of the trendy little shops or a cool local restaurants or coffee shop. But if you don't also take a look at the real estate while you're here, you're missing some of the best of Crescent Hill.

The homes here are right out of a storybook. Pretty cottages, lovely bungalows, homes from many different eras of architecture, there's another treasure around every corner here. Crescent Hill is a diverse community with homes in all styles and sizes. Historic, modern, charming, whatever look you're going for is here. Visit Crescent Hill this September and spend some time with the gorgeous architecture here.
