Walk Along the River This June

Louisville is also known as River City because it's nestled on the bank of the Ohio. River traffic still makes its way up and down the river and now, much of Louisville's waterfront is used for ports, buildings and houses. But you can still see what the river and the land around it looked like long, long ago, when the city was still in its early stages and the United States was still pretty young. This June, go find a piece of history sitting on the banks of the river at the Farnsley Moremen Landing and step back in time to see what life was like way back then.

At the Landing

Any time you want, so long as it's between dawn and dusk, you can get a look at the historic Farnsley Moremen Landing. This was a large homestead and farm known mostly for its trees and its industry. The large home still sits here, furnished with the pieces that were used in the early 1800s. You can also see the trees and the beautiful fields, once rich with plants, that drew visitors to this spot. They would stop here and gather soap and other supplies on their way to the city, or away from the city as they headed for different parts of the country.

Farnsley Moreman Landing

The site belongs to the park system and it's free and open for all to enjoy. Feel free to bring leashed pets with you as you walk along the beautiful waterfront and get a look at life in the past. The river shaped the city and here, you can see how it took shape in those early days.

Find the Farnsley Moremen Landing at 7410 Moorman Road. That's in the Valley Station neighborhood, a waterfront community that is full of modern attractions, too.

Land in Valley Station

Valley Station is one of the city's largest communities. It stretches out along the river along both sides of Dixie Highway, the main road of the neighborhood and one of the main roads in the whole country. You can follow Dixie all the way to Florida, but chances are good you'll find plenty of things in Valley Station to keep you here.

It’s not just the restaurants or the shopping, the community center or the library that will keep you in Valley Sation. This neighborhood is also full of homes in all sizes, shapes and styles. From pretty cottages with a quirky flair to big, modern homes with huge garages and finished basements and everything in between, you're going to find it here. Swimming pools, second floors, nice garden areas. Whatever is on your list already matches a home here. Now, you just have to go and find it!
